Chapter 19

Malinda/Brittany drove to Enzo’s house. She was accompanied by five black SUVs from the FBI and a SWAT team.

The team stayed back while Brittany approached the house. Emelina stayed in one of the cars with Agent Gerard Richardson. They wanted her there to let them know if all the children were accounted for.

“Where did you say you got the girl?” Gerard had asked her as they drove to the house.

“I don’t recall saying,” she answered.

“I think I know.”

“Then you know to let it go. Right?” she said forcefully.

“Yes, ma’am.”

Now she had entered the drive and stood at the gate to the house. She pushed the button on the pole next to the gate. Instead of a voice coming over the speaker, a man stepped out from behind the wall.

“Can I help you, ma’am?” he asked in a rough voice.

“Yes, my car broke down back there,” and she pointed into the darkness behind her. “I was hoping you could help me.”

“No, I can’t.”

She looked insulted. “Really? That’s not very friendly of you.”

“I’m not your friend, lady. Now get out of here.”

This guy was not a good person, so when Brit stuck the Taser through the fence and watched him fall, she didn’t feel bad about it at all.

She reached through and pulled him close enough to go through his pockets. She found what she was looking for hanging from a chain on his belt. She hit the button on the remote, and the gate swung open.

Brittany signaled the team behind her and walked inside the property. She was followed in by the SWAT team truck and a few of the FBI cars.

She walked around the back of the house and waited for the noise in front. When she heard the bullhorn, she eased open the back door and stepped inside. With her Lugar in her hand and her arm extended, she worked her way through the house. She searched room after room but came up empty. Finally, she radioed the team and told them the house was clear.

They came in and searched it from top to bottom. No one was there, and there was no sign that any children had been kept there.

“Someone tipped them off,” Brittany said.

As the team finished their search and left the house, Brittany stayed behind to do some further investigation. She knew that Enzo had to be hiding somewhere, and she was determined to find him. She began searching the house again, this time more thoroughly.

She found a small room hidden behind a bookcase that had been cleverly disguised. When she opened the door, she saw a laptop on a table and a phone that had been left on its charger. She quickly grabbed the laptop and began to search through it for any information that might lead her to Enzo.

As she searched, she found a folder labeled “Operations.” Inside were files on various illegal activities, including child trafficking. Brittany’s stomach turned as she read through the files, but she knew she had to keep going if she wanted to find Enzo.
